3 Nights in Copenhagen

(with a bonus trip to Sweden)

We’ve just got back from an incredible 3-night break in Copenhagen, and it honestly exceeded expectations. It’s one of those cities that manages to feel relaxed and laid-back while still offering loads to see and do, perfect for a short getaway.

We flew with British Airways from London Heathrow Airport on Wednesday 11th March, and the journey couldn’t have been easier. The flight was only around 90 minutes to 2 hours, so it barely feels like you’ve travelled far at all. Once you land at Copenhagen Airport, you’re straight into one of the most efficient transport systems we’ve experienced. A quick 20-minute train ride takes you directly into the heart of the city , no stress, no waiting around, and no need for expensive taxis.

We stayed at the Andersen Boutique Hotel, which is in a perfect location just a 5-minute walk from the central train station. From the moment we arrived, it felt welcoming and stylish, with a really modern boutique feel. The little touches made a big difference , complimentary tea and coffee available all day, cosy communal spaces, and the standout feature: their daily wine hour at 4pm, where you can enjoy a free glass of wine. It’s such a simple idea but a really nice way to relax, meet new people and unwind before heading back out for the evening.

On our first day, we joined a free walking tour, which I’d definitely recommend if it’s your first time in the city. It gave us a great overview of Copenhagen’s history and layout, and we covered a lot of ground without even realising it. Highlights included the famous The Little Mermaid statue (smaller than expected, but still worth seeing!), the beautiful Amalienborg Palace where the royal family reside, and Christiansborg Palace, home to the Danish parliament. Walking around the city, you really notice how clean and well-designed everything is, and the colourful waterfront areas give it a really unique charm.

Friday started a bit differently with a morning workout at Butchers Lab CrossFit. It’s an amazing gym with a great atmosphere, super friendly and welcoming even if you’re just dropping in. Afterwards, we did what Copenhagen does best: coffee and pastries. The café culture here is on another level, and there are so many independent coffee spots to choose from, all with that minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose a couple of hours just relaxing and people-watching.

Later that afternoon, we decided to make the most of how well-connected everything is and took a trip over to Malmö. The train takes about 30 minutes and crosses the impressive Øresund Bridge, which is an experience in itself. Malmö has a slightly quieter, more local feel compared to Copenhagen, but it’s still really charming with its mix of historic buildings and modern spaces. We had dinner there and immediately noticed the price difference, it’s definitely cheaper than Denmark, with beers at almost half the price. It made for a really nice change of pace and felt like getting a second trip within the same holiday.

Saturday was much more relaxed. After a busy couple of days, we took it slow with a lazy morning, grabbing one last coffee and soaking up the atmosphere before heading back to the airport for our afternoon flight home. Even that felt straightforward and stress-free, which just sums up the whole experience.

Overall, Copenhagen is an ideal city break destination. It’s easy to get to, easy to get around, and has that perfect balance of culture, great food, coffee, and a laid-back vibe. Adding in a quick trip to Malmö made it even more memorable and is definitely something we’d recommend if you have the time.

Already thinking about going back!
