Wilderness Luxury Lodges in Africa

There are some travel experiences you can understand from photos… and others you only truly grasp once you’ve felt them.

It’s dust on your ankles after stepping down from the vehicle. It’s the heat of the day fading into a cinnamon-coloured sunset. It’s the stillness right before a herd of elephants emerges from the treeline. It’s the soundscape at night - distant lion calls, the whoop of hyenas, the chorus of frogs and insects that makes you realise you’re not just visiting nature… you’re inside it.

Wilderness began in Botswana, in the Okavango Delta, and grew into a world-leading conservation and hospitality company that now protects and operates across a remarkable footprint: eight African countries, spanning approximately 2.2 million hectares (5.4 million acres) of wild space.

Even at this scale, their philosophy remains the same: tread lightly, preserve fiercely, and share these places in a way that gives back more than it takes.

Below, we’ve broken down Wilderness lodges by destination, with a simple guide to the regions they operate in, and why those regions are so extraordinary.

BOTSWANA

The Original Wilderness (Okavango Delta, Linyanti & Mababe)

Botswana is widely considered the gold standard for safari, and with good reason. The country has intentionally protected its wilderness through a high-value, low-volume tourism model, which means fewer camps, fewer vehicles, and significantly more privacy than many other safari destinations.

Wilderness has been part of Botswana’s story for over 40 years, dating back to their very first operation in the Okavango Delta. Today, their camps are positioned across three of Botswana’s most iconic safari regions:

Okavango Delta

A phenomenon found nowhere else on Earth, a vast inland delta where seasonal floodwaters transform grasslands into shimmering waterways. This region is famous for a mix of water and land-based safari, including mokoro (dugout canoe) journeys, boating, and game drives. Wildlife is prolific and birdlife is world-class.

Linyanti

Wild, remote, and intensely game-rich, known for extraordinary elephant concentrations and strong predator sightings. The habitat here shifts between riverine forest, open floodplains and waterways, and the overall feeling is “untouched Botswana.”

Mababe

A wilder, more primal region where predator-and-prey dynamics can be dramatic. It’s a place for guests who want raw nature, big skies, and that sense of being far from everything.

Wilderness Camps in Botswana

Wilderness Chitabe - Okavango Delta

A legendary camp known for consistently high-quality wildlife encounters in the Delta. This is Okavango safari at its most thrilling and immersive, the kind of place that regularly delivers heart-racing sightings.

Chitabe Lediba - Okavango Delta

Smaller and more intimate than its sister camp, designed for guests who want exceptional wildlife with a more personal, “together” feeling, perfect for families, couples, or anyone who values privacy and connection.

DumaTau Camp - Linyanti

Chic, design-led luxury in one of Botswana’s most wildlife-dense areas, particularly famous for elephants. Think polished comfort, exceptional guiding, and the type of safari setting where the landscape itself feels alive.

King’s Pool - Linyanti

A refined, elevated safari base in the wild Linyanti, where the wildlife is as regal as the name suggests. This is for guests who want classic safari romance, remarkable animal density, and a sense of quiet exclusivity.

Linyanti Tented Camp - Linyanti

An off-the-radar camp experience that feels like true expedition luxury, ideal for families or small groups who want space, authenticity and the kind of safari that doesn’t feel curated for crowds.

Mokete - Mababe

Located in a private wilderness area where the safari experience can feel more primal and cinematic - predators, prey, and the dramatic realism of life in the bush. For guests who want wildness first, with luxury woven in.

Savuti - Linyanti

Vumbura Plains - Okavango Delta

A true flagship-style Okavango camp that blends luxury with versatility, offering both land and water experiences. This is ideal for guests who want the full Delta spectrum: waterways, plains, and beautifully designed comfort.

Wilderness Mombo - Okavango Delta

Wilderness Qorokwe - Okavango Delta

Elegant, seamlessly designed, and positioned in a wildlife-rich corner of the Delta. This is for travellers who want refined luxury, beautiful scenery and consistently rewarding safari days.

KENYA

The Original East African Safari (Masai Mara / Mara Triangle)

Kenya is safari’s most legendary address, the place where the classic East African safari story began. It’s a country of astonishing diversity: equatorial plains, acacia-strewn plateaus, forested highlands, lakes, and even Indian Ocean coastline.

The Masai Mara is the centrepiece, and within it, the Mara Triangle is the most exclusive, tightly managed region. With lower vehicle density and strong conservation oversight, it offers a more authentic, unhurried safari feel - even in peak season.

Kenya is also synonymous with one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth: the Great Wildebeest Migration, typically seen in the Mara from July to October, when the herds cross the river and predator activity is intense.
